by Chip Hennen Redwood City, CA (April 10, 2009) — EndoGastric Solutions (EGS), the recognized leader in the emerging field of Natural Orifice Surgery (NOS), today announced its support of SAGES (the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons) Position Statement on Endolumenal Therapies for Gastrointestinal Diseases including GERD and Obesity published in the Winter 2009 edition of Scope and online. The preeminent society for gastrointestinal and endoscopic surgeons, SAGES establishes recognized standards of practice to promote patient safety and the best clinical outcomes. In the position statement, SAGES states that endolumenal therapies “have the potential to treat many common gastrointestinal conditions as effectively as more traditional invasive procedures.” SAGES goes on to mention that endolumenal treatments for GERD and obesity promote patient safety by providing surgical outcomes with significantly reduced risk of morbidities associated with wound, anesthetic and anastomotic complications as well as other benefits.
