EndoGastric Solutions Announces Appointment of Vice President of U.S. Sales

Redwood City, CA (June 21, 2010) – EndoGastric Solutions (EGS), the recognized leader in the emerging field of Natural Orifice Surgery (NOS), announced today that Mr. Christopher Marrus has joined the company as Vice President of U.S. Sales to continue the company’s rapid commercial growth and expansion. 

"Mr. Marrus is well acquainted with disruptive technologies and has extensive career experience leading sales teams to success through implementing a 'missionary' sales strategy and by driving procedure adoption," said Thierry Thaure, EndoGastric Solutions’ President and Chief Executive Officer. “Chris helped lead Intuitive Surgical through its dynamic growth phase, which is precisely the stage EGS faces today. In particular, in light of the recent FDA warning about long-term use of PPIs, we anticipate exponential growth for our EsophyX line, used to perform the incisionless TIF procedure to correct the root cause of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Overall, EGS continues to anticipate approximately 100% sales growth in the U.S. in 2010, and with the addition of Chris to our leadership team, we are increasingly confident that 2011 will be another year of significant growth. EGS has found the business visionary to help us reach this tremendous potential."

Mr. Marrus comes to EGS following a successful six-year career at Intuitive Surgical, where he was awarded multiple promotions and became Area Vice President. In that position, he was responsible for managing a large portion of the company's national sales team and implementing a high-quality clinical pathway focus that resulted in significant surgical adoption rates and substantial sales growth.

As part of a broader reorganization to more narrowly focus resources upon and support growing TIF programs and procedure volumes across the U.S., EGS recently expanded its direct U.S. sales team from about 20 to over 40 field-based employees, a number that is expected to grow to over 50 within the next several months.

“Our energies are increasingly focused on building existing TIF programs, partnering with accounts on their direct-to-consumer efforts, and rebuilding referral patterns to surgeons and therapeutic endoscopists,” continued Mr. Thaure. “The combination of the sales expansion and Chris’ leadership and expertise will better enable us to assist our customers in building their practices and optimizing their TIF clinical outcomes.”
